Munich GAA heads to Maastricht

There is no training Saturday 13th of August due to the fact that club will be participating in the 7-a-side tournament in Maastricht. We will have both a mens & ladies team making the 1,400km round trip this weekend. For a list of the rest of the years events see the Regional Tournament listing. Training will be back on as normal on Saturday 20th of August at 11am, and as usual everyone is welcome to come along and try a session.

A Parish Far from home

An interesting book about GAA in Europe, called “A parish far from home” by Philip O’Connor from Stockholm Gaels is due to be published in September and should be worth keeping an eye out for.

With a foreword by legendary Irish broadcaster Mícheal O Muircheartaigh, “A Parish Far From Home” tells the story of how a group of Irish ex-pats got together to play one of their native games – little did they know at the time that the Irish community in the Swedish capital would rally together like never before to support them as they set out on their first season to try to capture the Scandinavian championship.

Results 2011 Munich Ladies Tournament

After a long and hot day at the Gartenstadt Trudering Football Grounds, Munich and Belgium qualified to play each other in the final.
The game was very closely contested with the teams tied at half time.
Belgium though built up a lead in the second half to run out winners 4-10 to 4-3

On the 9th of July Munich will host a round of the Ladies European Gaelic football Championship.
UPDATE: Schedule is now confirmed with throw in time of 9.30am for the first game with the final at 16:20.
Addmission is free.

The summer is truly here, and it’s time to enjoy some Irish Gaelic sports in the heart of Munich.

Summer GAA training in Munich

Training takes place every Saturday at 11am at our club at Gartenstadt, Heinrich-Wieland-Straße 102, 81735 München. Full details can be seen here. If you would like to try Gaelic Football you are more than welcome to come down and try out a session or two.

Munich Colmcilles in the Papers

Last month our club was featured in the Prinz magazine, which lists the top events and things to do in Munich (and other German cities). We were listed along side such clubs as the Munich Lacrosse Club, A Munich boule club and Kubb Club. The feedback from the article has been very positive, and we are very happy to have some new local players joining us for training. Click here to read the full article.

Some players from our kids hurling team were recently interviewed for a series to be shown on TG4 (Teilifis na Gaeilge), the Irish language television channel.
