Brussels Hurling Tournament 2005

October 8th, 2005 by The Hurlers

Brussels Hurling Tournament 2005

The final leg of the 2005 Euro Hurling league took place in Tervuren on the outskirts of Brussels on Saturday October 1st. Teams from Den Haag, Zurich, Brussels and Munich competed on a day when weather and pitch conditions were ideal for hurling. Dickie Murphy (3 time senior All-Ireland final referee) had the privilege of overseeing good hurling games during the day as each team battled against one another.

Munich and Zurich proved to be the strong teams and set up their second tournament final of 2005. The first half was an evenly contested affair but Munich showed their superior point scoring class in the second half and comfortably pipped Zurich on a scoreline of 1:14 to 1:6 at the final whistle. Well done to everybody on the Munich entourage for playing their part and dual star Mick O’ Connell on achieving player of the tournament.

The Charlie McCreevy Cup was presented in The Michael Collins to Noel Stubbs by Brian Nason, the Irish Ambassador to Belgium and then off to Delirium Tremons to take a look at “the bright side of life” with Johnny Cash and friends. Celebrations continued through the weekend until the last maß was served at the Oktoberfest.

Sin é chun bliain eile. Danke Schön.
