2012 Warsaw Tournament Report

The first official East and Central European Regional European Ladies Football Tournament ever took place on April 14th 2012 in Warsaw, Poland. Competing teams were Warsaw A and B, a mixed Prague/Vienna and Munich. All games were referreed by Matthew Morris from The Hague.

Huge Thanks to Cumann Warszawa who did a great job with the organization of the matches at AWF grounds and the post tournament party at Bradleys Irish Bar. Also well done in having two teams!

Somehow they even managed to stop the pouring rain just before the first Ladies game started. The game ended with a 4-10 vs. 0-0 victory of the Munich Colmcilles Ladies over the mixed team, which was followed by the match Warsaw A vs. Warsaw B. The A –Team showed their dominance and beat the B-Team 6-3 vs. 2-5.
After a short break during which the ladies got a chance to watch the men games, it was time for the two best teams of the day to meet for their first match: Warsaw A vs. Munich. It became a passionate and tight game, in the end won by Munich 3-2 vs. 3-6.

In the following game Prague/Vienna showed their best performance of the day with a little help from the munich goalie against Warsaw B. At half time it was still about even in points but Warsaw pulled themselves together and gave the defense of the mixed team no chance. The game ended 3-2 vs. 9-2.
The last two matches of the Round Robin were easy tasks for the two teams that were to meet in the final later. Munich beat Warsaw B 5-5 vs. 0-0 and Warsaw A beat the Prague/Vienna mixed team 6-4 vs. 0-4.
Instead of playing for the 3rd place the teams decided to have a shootout, deservedly won by Warsaw B.
Spectators of the final could watch the best players of Cumann Warszawa, who showed great skills, against the well-rehearsed Munich Colmcilles. Both teams fought well in an exciting and physical game, but fitness and tactic wise having the edge, Munich won clearly in the end 3-5 vs. 1-3.

The after party started with delicious finger food and a short presentation of the winners and ended with some crazy dancing to great live music.

Congratulations to the winner of the Player of the Tournament Award, Susi Schwalb (Munich) and the Munich Ladies for winning their first tournament in several years.
